As the only metropolis located on two continents, Istanbul is one of the most beautiful cities in the world with its natural and historical richness. With its mystical history, Bosphorus, entertainment and shopping centers, cultural activities and famous Turkish cuisine, the city enjoys all the necessities of modern life and offers a high potential for the business world with its social life, dynamic trade, industry, import and export. Istanbul is one of the top cities in Turkey with its touristic and cultural potential, which enjoys rich cultural and touristic resources and diverse destinations. Tourism sector plays a vital role in increasing the contribution of this potential to Turkey’s process of economic development. Therefore, it is necessary to meet the quality personnel requirement of the sector, strengthen inter-institutional cooperation at national and international levels, carry out scientific research that could offer solutions to the sector’s problems and identify future goals, as well as to conduct or support national and international scientific events and meetings.
In order to fulfill all these functions in the most effective way, Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Tourism was established in 2010. There are Tourism Management, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and Tourism Guidance Departments in the Faculty of Tourism. Our active departments that accept students are the Department of Tourism Management and the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts. While determining the curriculum, national and international internship opportunities are taken into account, and university-private sector cooperation is taken as a basis, by making use of the opinions of sector representatives and academics during the creation of the course curricula.
